RTR(A) Part 2 — Practical Examination Preparation

About the Course

RTR(A) Part 2 assesses how you use radio-telephony knowledge in a practical setting. It requires accurate communication, familiarity with the relevant procedures and an understanding of the regulations behind them.

IFA’s Part 2 course focuses on the knowledge and procedures assessed during this stage. Students study how communication changes across different phases of flight, how messages should be transmitted and received, and which requirements apply to aeronautical radio services.

The course is intended for candidates preparing for the practical examination after passing the written stage, or through an applicable exemption.

What the Course Covers

The course follows the practical-assessment areas specified in paragraph 7.3.2 of DGCA CAR Section 7, Series G, Part VI.

1. Radiotelephone Operation and Procedures

Practical knowledge of radiotelephone operation and the procedures used during different phases of flight.

2. Transmission and Reception of Messages

The ability to send and receive radiotelephone messages correctly.

3. Radio-Communication Regulations

Knowledge of the regulations governing radiotelephone communication, particularly provisions relating to safety of life.

4. Aeronautical Radio Services

The special provisions governing aeronautical fixed, mobile and radio-navigation services.

Examination Format

  • Examination: Practical radio-telephony examination

  • Assessment method: Flight radio-telephony exercise in a simulated environment

  • Language: English

  • Approximate duration: 30 minutes

  • Minimum passing: score50%

The examination assesses practical communication and the application of relevant procedures and regulations. The simulated environment above describes the official examination.
