Technical General & Aircraft Systems

Technical General

About the Course

Technical General explains how an aircraft is built, how its systems work and the principles that allow it to fly. The subject covers airframes, engines, electrical systems and aerodynamics, giving students the technical knowledge required during CPL ground training.

At IFA, we teach these topics in relation to one another. Students study how an engine produces power, how aircraft systems perform their functions and how changes in speed, configuration and loading affect flight. Understanding these connections helps make technical information easier to follow and recall.

The course follows the DGCA CPL Technical General syllabus. It is suitable for students beginning their technical studies and those revising before another examination attempt. Classes, chapter tests and doubt-solving sessions provide opportunities to work through unfamiliar concepts throughout the course.

What the Course Covers

The course follows Appendix D of DGCA CAR Section 7, Series B, Part IV, which prescribes the Aircraft & Engines - Technical General syllabus for CPL aeroplanes.

1. Aircraft and Engines

  • Airframe and Systems

  • Electrics

  • Power Plant

2. Principles of Flight

  • Subsonic Aerodynamics

  • Transonic Aerodynamics

  • Stability

  • Control

  • Limitations

  • Propellers

  • Flight Mechanics

These are the main syllabus headings. The detailed coverage within them includes aircraft structures and systems, electrical principles, piston and turbine engines, aerodynamic forces, aircraft stability, control and flight behaviour.

Examination Format

  • Examination: DGCA CPL Technical General

  • Question type: Multiple-choice questions

  • Assessment: Theoretical knowledge of aircraft, engines, systems and principles of flight

  • Minimum passing score: 70%

Preparation requires an understanding of how components and systems function, together with the aerodynamic principles covered in the syllabus. IFA’s chapter tests help students assess individual topics, while mock tests provide practice across the subject.

What IFA Offers

  • Online and offline classes

  • Class notes for study and revision

  • A test after every chapter

  • Mock tests

  • Doubt-solving sessions

  • One-to-one mentoring

Students can use doubt-solving sessions to revisit system operation, aerodynamic principles and questions they find difficult. One-to-one mentoring helps identify gaps in understanding and the areas that need further revision.

Frequently Asked Questions

QDo I need an engineering background?

No engineering qualification is needed to begin studying Technical General. The course introduces the technical concepts relevant to pilot theory preparation.

QDoes the syllabus include both piston and turbine engines?

Yes. Both are included under Power Plant in the DGCA CPL Technical General syllabus.

QHow is Technical General different from Technical Specific?

Technical General covers aircraft systems and principles of flight broadly. Technical Specific focuses on a particular aircraft type and its related systems.

QCan I join for revision before another attempt?

Yes. Students returning to the subject can use the classes, tests and mentoring to revisit the syllabus and address difficulties in their preparation.
